New thermal-imaging cameras in action

One of our team was recently out testing one of our new thermal-imaging cameras, which, following the introduction of new bird survey guidelines (, will help us to locate and assess nocturnal birds such as the Red-listed Woodcock and legally-protected Barn Owl.

See the video clip below where a Short-Eared Owl flies overhead whilst being mobbed by a Carrion Crow! The new equipment will be added to our infra-red cameras that we already use on Bat-roost surveys, providing clear views of bat emergences from buildings and trees.
