James is a Chartered Environmentalist, a full member of CIEEM, and has a PhD in ecology and a BSc in Ecology & Conservation.  He has been a professional ecological consultant since 2006, working in a range of sectors, including residential, defence, energy and transport infrastructure, from small-scale developments to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.  He is experienced in a wide range of ecological survey and assessment techniques, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, Ecological Impact Assessment and Habitats Regulations Assessment, and has performed the role of Expert Witness at Public Inquiry and Development Consent Order Examination.
