Tidal Power in the Severn Estuary

The government is currently undertaking a Feasibility Study into tidal energy generation in the Severn Estuary, including the controversial Cardiff-Weston tidal barrage proposal. EAD has been commissioned by the South West Wildlife Trusts to provide technical advice on the ecological impacts of the short-listed options and to look in detail at the work being carried out as part of the government’s Strategic Environmental Assessment. EAD has also been liaising with developers of innovative technologies that could offer the potential for tidal power generation with considerably less environmental impact than conventional tidal barrages and lagoons.
