Worcester Library and History Centre

EAD has been commissioned by Galliford Try plc to provide ecological services for the construction of the new Worcester Library and History Centre. This 60 million pound PFI project is to develop the UK’s first fully integrated public and university library.

The scheme, which will also include the county archives, history centre and archaeology service, in addition to commercial and retail space, is a partnership between Worcestershire County Council and the University of Worcester. The building is set to become one of the world’s most sustainable, with a 50 per cent reduction in carbon emissions, including natural ventilation, a biomass boiler and use of water from the River Severn for cooling.

EAD is advising on how the ecological value of site can be enhanced, which will help gain the project an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.
